Meditation is hands down one of my favorite ways to calm my nervous system. Why? Because meditation is an evidence-based practice that provides benefits for reducing stress and anxiety. It does so by lowering cortisol levels, calming the nervous system, and bringing awareness back to the present moment. When practiced regularly, meditation can decrease anxiety symptoms, improve emotional regulation, and reduce panic attacks, not to mention the positive effect it has an everyday stress.
Give it a try! I promise you'll feel better after the first one.
AND if it feels like a struggle for you, don't worry. You're not alone! If you find your mind wandering or maybe you're a little more antsy while you're trying to be still, honor that movement... both mentally and physically... allow it to be there without judgment and get back to clearing your mind.
